police responded to a home on the 13- hundred block of east 14th street. they say one person was shot, and showed up to a des moines hospital around 1-30. police responded to this same home a few weeks ago for a separate drive by shooting. police say the juvenile victim suffered a non-life threatening gun shot wound to the chest. look for more on this story later tonight, on the channel 13 news. if you're on the road tonight... you... 74136 'last year there was there were 4 fatalities over the 4 day weekend for new years. this year we want to reverse that
way to none.' that's the highest number of fatalities over the new year holiday since 2009. local bar owners are trying to help bring that number down as well. at many of the bars downtown you'll see signs posted with discount codes for ride services they believe that making those discount rides available will make a big difference tonight. 75957 'i think a lot of people are being smarter about getting drivers. or someone staying sober too. we hand out cards too and post cab numbers .as a whole in the 6 or 7 years weve been here i would says its gotten better.' the iowa chapter of mothers against drunk driving has partnered with uber to offer free rides to new users. if you use the code safe-rides-i-a. you'll get a 15 dollar credit both ways. thousands of people will head to the court avenue entertainment district tonight... but they won't see as many uniformed police officers as years past. des moines police
have the resources. we know that thats an area where we need to pay extra attention to and we usually do. it happens that way. its just right now, with using on duty officers, were kind of in a position where we have to do it as the calls for service would allow. a deadly shooting last month prompted calls for extra police a deadly shooting last month prompted calls for extra police officers in the area... but the department says it doesn't have the money to put extra officers on the streets tonight. a group called operation downtown helps pay for additional officers... but it doesn't decide when or where the additional officers should be placed. if you're looking for a family friendly... alcohol free party... here are a couple ideas.. the science center of iowa is hosting sober under the stars. it celebrates sobriety promotes a healthy alternative for those recovering from addiction and substance abuse. it starts at 6;30 and continues until 12:30... tickets are 7 dollars for adults and 5 for kids.
